Eilenberger home on Eilenberger Road in Minisink Hills, PA

On one of my evening walks I saw the door to this house open so I guessed where the walkway was (it's all grown over and the driveway is not visible anymore) and walked up to the house. It was obviouse no one had lived there for a while. I could see all kinds of personal things like old photos from the doorway. It was a very sad sight because from what I could see from the front door someone had ransacked the house. I found out the home had belonged to Willard and Dr. Ofelia Eilenberger. Willard died in 2004. Ofelia became very ill in her old age and moved out to live with her daughter in Virginia in the summer of 2007. She died in 2010.

Schmitt's Mountain Resort 1960's / 2014

Part of the attraction of Schmitt's from as early as 1948 through the 1970's (when the Poconos was almost exclusively a weekend getaway / honeymoon location) was its river-fed swimming pool. Schmitt's went under in the early 1980's (or maybe late 1970's) and in 1994, under new owners, was renamed Pierce's Landing and was transformed into an apartment complex. The river-fed swimming pool is still there, but not part of Pierce's Landing.

Schmitt's Mountain Resort (now Pierce's Landing)

Schmitt's Mountains Resort existed from as early as 1948 (that's the oldest newspaper ad I found) until the late 1970's. During the 1980's it became a rundown apartment rental complex. It was purchased in the fall of 1994, renamed Pierce's Landing and received a much-needed makeover. These photos are of carvings in a tree behind Pierce's Landing along Gap View Drive. I spotted these carvings a few days ago during my evening walk. I had to  negotiate a very steep slope to get the photos and I'm glad I took the risk. I'm positive that the carvings were made by adolescent guests of Schmitt's who snuck away from their parents in the evening. The other photos are postcards of Schmitt's that I found on the internet. I stuck in a current photo of the pool just for the heck of it.
