Zimmerman's Mill and the mill's raceway

Minisink Hills, PA. Zimmerman's Mill and the mill's raceway built by Peter Zimmerman in 1849. Located on Old Mill Road. The mill received some cosmetic renovations in 1972. The mill was powered by water from the Marshalls Creek and the water that flowed from Silver Lake just a few feet away but has since disappeared so that all you can now see is Marshalls Creek.

  1. My mother grew up "up the lane" from that mill, next to Pococabana. Her first car was garaged in the mill. Next to the mill is the foundation of the old ice house. My granddad used to harvest ice on Silver Lake - I have his ice tools.

  2. I'd love to see old photos of Silver Lake Lodge and Silver Lake. I think the Lodge was where that tobacco outlet store is now. It's strange how the lake is totally gone except for the creek running through where it used to be. The shape of it is still there as if it packed its bag and left last night.

  3. P.S. I am going to go back and see the ice house foundation. I didn't know to look for one and just assumed it was all mill stuff. Do you have photos?

  4. I just started a FB group for Smithfield Twp and DWG history if you'd like to check it out. Would also love to see photos of these places and something beyond the regular postcard views. https://www.facebook.com/groups/688269207878054/
